Notices

  • Please can you bring items that you wish to submit for the club auction to the next meeting. These should be presented to a committee member, along with any Sale instructions and (ideally) a short description. The Clubs commission will be 10%. FEW OR NO LOTS MEANS NO AUCTION!
  • The proposed date for the Spring Skittles evening is Saturday 7th May at the Red Lion in Theale. We will be gauging interest at the January meeting, so please check your diaries!
  • Free and secure parking facilities have been negotiated for club use (thank you Peter!). If you would like details, please contact a member of the committee.

Winter Social – 27th November

The Winter Social took the form of a Christmas meal at the Hatched Gate Inn in Burghfield. Ten members and ten “plus ones” braved the big freeze to attend this year’s event, and were greeted by a warm and friendly staff, and a few familiar faces! The common consensus was that good food and good company (if not good weather!) were had by all, and we thank the Hatched Gate for hosting us.

Winter Bourse – 6th December

The Winter Bourse was a success as usual, with a number of additional dealer tables set out, and some lovely numismatic items for sale and on display. The Acquisitions displays included a lovely example of a Coin Book as used by European traders to establish currency conversions, and some lovely countermarked coins of Gavin’s.

Once again, Henry produced a veritable feast with everything from cheese and pineapple sticks to mince pies, and we thank him very much for his efforts.

Gavin also provided us with a numismatic quiz to test the grey matter. The questions were taxing as per normal, such as ‘In what year were English Long Cross pennies introduced?” The full questions and answers can be found below! We congratulate Frank and Neil, who were the top scorers with 9 out of a maximum of 20.

Thank you very much to the 19 members who attended, making the evening very enjoyable.
